Sheena O. Murray Interview: New Single "Sending My Love", Upcoming Debut Album, Thoughts on R&B

Emerging singer, songwriter and actress Sheena O. Murray's musical sound is described as soulful, soft, and sultry. She previously released her debut EP Somone in 2016 and followed it up with the singles "Do for Love", "Easy to Leave Me" and "Waste Some Time". I caught up with the Florida-based songstress to discuss her feel-good new single "Sending My Love" and much more.

TERRANCE: Can you first introduce us to where you were born and raised?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised primarily in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

TERRANCE: When did you realize music was your calling?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I think it was in high school. I always knew I wanted to be a performer, but I was so shy. Instead of joining choral, I majored in theater. But after school, I’d always write to tracks that my friend Tron produced. I joined a few girl groups, but I knew that I wanted to be a solo artist. Every time I perform, the love is reignited.

TERRANCE: Growing up, who were your musical influencers?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Toni Braxton are the three that always come to mind.

TERRANCE: In three words how would you describe your personality?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: Goofy, introspective, artistic

TERRANCE: Talk to us about your latest single "Sending My Love" and how it came about.

SHEENA O. MURRAY: The producer, Tron Lippett, whom I mentioned before, sent me the track and I instantly fell in love. It was almost magical how easily the melody and lyrics came to me. I was on break from a tour and was craving affection and attention and it was befitting that I wanted to “send” the love that I was seeking to this imaginary person.

TERRANCE: What was it like filming the visuals?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: It was the most fun I’ve ever had on set! I wanted it to read like candid summer moments with friends and I think we accomplished that. Stephen Gibson, the videographer and editor, did an excellent job executing my vision. All the laughs were genuine and the vibes were real.

TERRANCE: Can we expect a new EP, an album or are singles the focus at the moment?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I’m working on an album as we speak. I’m looking toward a summer 2022 release.

TERRANCE: What are your thoughts on the current state of R&B music?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I’m excited that it is re-emerging. It never died, in my opinion, but the mainstream wants to hear it again and that’s great! There are so many indie artists who are incredibly gifted and there’s room for all of us. I’m excited to see the future.

TERRANCE: Are there any upcoming shows or special appearances we can look forward to?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I’m going on a winter tour starting in January with a theatrical production. It’s called  Freedom Riders and I’m very excited to be lending me both my vocal and acting talents to this show.

TERRANCE: Outside of the music, what's one thing that people may not know about you?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: I love, love interior design. I also love animals and hope to one day open an animal boarding and grooming facility!

TERRANCE: Are there any final words you would like to share with your fans, followers and the readers?

SHEENA O. MURRAY: Thank you. I feel a lot of gratitude toward the people who support my art. You all help to keep me buoyant on this journey, which often feels arduous. I wouldn’t trade it for anything and I’m glad that you all are sticking with me as I evolve!

New Music: Dionne Warwick Teams With Chance the Rapper for Charity Song "Nothing's Impossible"

Beginning on November 30th the organizations will launch a campaign for 12 days of giving leading up to Warwick!s 81st birthday on December 12th. Contributions can be made via kindmusicgroup.com.

“Education, clothing, food and housing are the four key components to success in life. Without one you simply cannot have the others. As a doctor of music my personal mission is and always has been to educate my babies around the world about the importance of music as not only a key form of expression, but as a tool to raise awareness and help people truly in need,” Warwick shares.

She continues, “Kind Music Academy offers a hands-on curriculum where kids teach kids, under the guidance of my son, Damon (Elliott,) who I have personally watched grow and learn through his own experiences in this business of music, thus becoming one of the most sought after songwriters, composers, engineers and producers. Our mission is to empower the babies to learn how to not only make it in this business but to sustain a long, honest career while helping the next generation do the same. Like I always say, ‘If you can think it, you can do it!.’”

It all started with Twitter as Dionne - dubbed the Queen of Twitter - has been parodied on Saturday Night Live for her big presence on social media.

Her initial back-and-forth Tweets with Chance questioning why “the Rapper” was in his stage name was viewed by millions.

“Dionne Warwick is a legendary artist. I was so humbled to learn that she even knew my name when she mentioned me on Twitter many months ago, so to have the opportunity to collaborate together has been a great honor,” states Chance The Rapper.

All proceeds to the rap-gospel tune will benefit AIDS research.
