Unapologetic and focused are two words that describe singer and songwriter Miya Guggs.
The Kansas City native delivers her latest single and music video "Situationships" across all streaming platforms and will appear on her forthcoming debut EP Patterns later this Summer via the TopNotch Music label imprint.
TERRANCE: First, can you share with us a little about yourself?
MIYA GUGGS: I'm Miya Guggs and I'm 22 years old. I'm from Kansas City, Kansas and I'm a Sagittarius. I started taking music more seriously three years ago.
TERRANCE: In three words, how would you describe your personality?
MIYA GUGGS: Bubbly, spontaneous and charming.
TERRANCE: For the first time listener, how would you describe your sound?
MIYA GUGGS: Sensual and authentic.
TERRANCE: Who are some artists that have been most influential to you?
MIYA GUGGS: SZA, Jhene Aiko and Teyana Taylor.
TERRANCE: Talk about your new single "Situationships" and how it came about.
MIYA GUGGS: I was strolling through Twitter one day and there was a trend where everyone were talking about their situationships and I was like, I should write a song about that because I've experienced that. So I gave my little two cents on it and that's how it came about.
TERRANCE: What was it like filming the visuals?
MIYA GUGGS: It was so much fun. It was nice in California. The beach was amazing. My sister and her friend were in the video. Everyone were so happy, so nice and so friendly and having a good time. It's like we weren't shooting a music video.
TERRANCE: What can you tell us about upcoming EP Patterns?
MIYA GUGGS: Patterns is basically just about the patterns in my relationships that I've noticed. You have good patterns and bad patterns, you know? The negatives and positives. So I'm kind of just giving my side of what I've seen.
TERRANCE: When you're not working on music, what do you enjoy?
MIYA GUGGS: Sleeping (laughs). I really love horseback riding. I love to paint. I have a lot of paintings on my walls. I also love going out to different mexican restaurants with my best friend and we love trying the margarita's.
TERRANCE: As an artist, where do you see yourself in the next five years?
MIYA GUGGS: Hopefully I wanna be in California, well established and living my life to the fullest.
TERRANCE: Any final words you would like to share?
MIYA GUGGS: I love my fans so much. I don't even consider them fans, I consider them like friends, even though I haven't met them yet.
