Vivian Green Releases New Holiday EP "Spread the Love" (from the BET Networks Film "Holiday Hideaway")

Multi-award winning singer-songwriter Vivian Green has released a new 5-track holiday EP Spread the Love to all streaming platforms via Make Noise Recordings in partnership with The SRG/ILS Group.

"While I didn't grow up celebrating Christmas, I've always loved the euphoric melodies and freedoms in the song structure of holiday music. I am a songwriter and that means I essentially should be able to write about anything. When writing 'Spread the Love' I was intentional about including the three cultural holidays of the season because it hasn't been done enough. There’s something beautiful about acknowledging different cultures in one space. I truly enjoyed assisting in helping to energize someone else's story in the film 'Holiday Hideaway', and as bonus, I'm excited to release this EP." -Vivian Green

Inspired by the BET Networks film Holiday Hideaway which aired on BET+ and other BET properties on Thursday, November 24th.

Holiday Hideaway, was written, directed and produced by African-American Women and all songs were written and co-produced by Vivian Green and scored by renown songwriter-producer Kwame'. The film stars Camilla Winbush (The Bernie Mac Show), Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day, Kill Bill), Ella Joyce (Roc), Reggie C. Hayes (Girlfriends) and centers around Carly Stewart (Winbush). She is the queen of holiday celebrations, but her mistletoe misstep sends her running to a Holiday Hideaway that teaches her the importance of family, forgiveness and fighting for love.

Vivian Green's Spread the Love EP follows after her 2020 full-length studio album Love Absolute.

Vivian Green Interview: New Album "Love Absolute", Collaborating with Ghostface Killah & More

Philly-born Singer, songwriter and pianist Vivian Green has released her seventh studio album Love Absolute globally via The Sono Recordings Group/Make Noise Recordings. The album features the Ghostface Killah-assisted lead single "Light Up" (Listen HERE), followed by "You Send Me" & "Where You Are". In our exclusive interview, Vivian Green detailed us about Love Absolute.

:

TERRANCE: First, congratulations on the release of your new album Love Absolute. How does it feel to get new music out to the public?

VIVIAN GREEN: Thank you! It's the seventh time around, so I'm happy I can say I've been here 18 years and seven albums.

TERRANCE: Talk about the inspiration behind the album's title.

VIVIAN GREEN: Love Absolute encompasses a variety of things that I love. I love to write songs at the piano and made a point to make 75% of the album this way. I love jazz tremendously and recorded "Harlem Blues", one of my very favorite songs that I've wanted to cover for years now. I love my people so I wrote about the largest forced migration in history that spread us out to many different places in the Americas. I love my love and I love myself. All of this is expressed in Love Absolute.

TERRANCE: What did you appreciate about each artist featured on the album?

VIVIAN GREEN: As we all know Ghostface Killah is part of the legendary Wu Tang Clan and a dope artist in his own right. Needless to say I'm TOTALLY a fan. I'm grateful for the feature and appreciate how very genuine, sweet and supportive he was throughout the entire process. Mike Phillips' gift is just a monster. Even if you don't care for jazz, his performance on "Harlem Blues" will completely wow you. I'm grateful he was able to bless the album with an incredible incomparable performance.

TERRANCE: You've recently released the singles "You Send Me" & "Where You Are". Can we expect visuals for those anytime soon?

VIVIAN GREEN: That is the plan. I hope we can get them done by January.

TERRANCE: What was the easiest song to record and the most difficult?

VIVIAN GREEN: I don't know how to answer that. I don't think any of the songs fall into either category because I heavily scrutinize each song until it's as perfect as I think it can be. I give them all a hard time (laughs).

TERRANCE: If there's one song on the album that resonates with your current state of mind, what would it be?

VIVIAN GREEN: I can't say there's one song that represents my current state of mind, but I will say "Love Song" , "Sweet Home" and "You Send Me" absolutely reflect my love life.

TERRANCE: As an artist, how did the pandemic prepare you to get creative?

VIVIAN GREEN: Well, Kwame and I started the album before the pandemic, so it was great because it allowed us to finish with no distractions. I was able to focus most of my time on it's completion. I'm grateful that my family hasn't been adversely affected by the virus, and I'm always praying for those who have been affected.

TERRANCE: This year marked the 15th Anniversary of your sophomore album Vivian. What was it like getting that second chance, because many often do not in your industry.

VIVIAN GREEN: I didn't even know that (laughs). I never think about the Anniversaries of my albums. I can honestly say I knew I would get a second album and that's simply because my first album made the label some money (laughs). But getting a second chance to set misconceptions straight was EXTREMELY important to me. My first album wasn't a good representation of who I am as an artist. Much of the sound and all of the imaging were influenced by trends and I didn't speak up about it. Many people didn't like Vivian because it wasn't like the first, but that was okay because I have to be myself above all else and present myself authentically. Now the 3rd album Beautiful was the one I didn't think I'd get the chance to make (laughs). I'm glad I had a 3rd and grateful I have a 7th.

TERRANCE: Are there any personal favorites from the Vivian album?

VIVIAN GREEN: Sure "Under My Skin", "Sweet Memory", "Mad", "Frustrated" and "Cursed".

TERRANCE: Besides the new music, what can we expect in the near future?

VIVIAN GREEN: Well, right now it's definitely about Love Absolute. I am working on something else, but I don't like to speak too soon.

I felt liberated to explore what was in my head without a spotlight, judgment or criticism, while recording Love Absolute,” mentions Vivian. “I began writing songs at the piano when I was just eleven years old. For me it is the purest expression of songwriting. My voice and the keys serve as vessels of the music in my head. In my solitude and away from the studio. While that surely comes later, I prefer the raw expression to come first, because there is certainly magic there. That magic is what makes “Love Absolute” different from my previous albums.”

Every ballad and mid-tempo began at the piano. I went back to the genesis and purity of my craft. While there are tracks on previous albums that came about this way, I never intentionally and insistently made half of an album from scratch,” she recalls. “I’ve listened to “Love Absolute” many times and I must say that it’s wonderfully versatile and beautifully cohesive. It’s gentle, tough, regretful, sexy, honest, loving and gives fans a look into my life. It also conveys self-love; love of my people; love of jazz; love of my privacy; and love of love. I haven’t made an album this honest in some years,” adds Vivian.

LOVE ABSOLUTE Tracklist:
1. Love Song
2. You Send Me
3. He Didn’t Hurt Me
4. This Love
5. Light Up (featuring Ghostface Killah)
6. Where You Are
7. Harlem Blues (featuring Mike Phillips)
8. Pain
9. That Kinda Pain
10. Jordan’s Question
11. We Are Everywhere
12. Sweet Home
13. The Walk Up

Vivian shares, “Kwame was the perfect producer to make this album with, because it’s NOT his preference to write this way. He is one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met and when he is out of his comfort zone, his versatility and genius just soar. The up-tempos and harder tracks are certainly his expression and the softer tracks are mine. We truly balance each other creatively. A few of my favorite tracks on the album includes; “That Kinda Pain”. It’s raw, dark and goes pretty hard. “Where You Are” is probably the most soulful track on the album. It expresses how much I love being with my love.”

In “We Are Everywhere”, I remind us of how large the trade was, how spread out we are, and how we share the same struggles. “Light Up”, another one of our signature “bangers”! Coming up in a “Wu Tang” household, I couldn’t have imagined that I would have such a hot record with Ghostface Killah. Lastly, “Harlem Blues”, featuring saxophonist Mike Phillips is a song I’ve loved for many years. As a teenager, I used to sing it in talent shows or anytime I was prompted to sing. I’m so excited for people to hear this interpretation and Mike Phillips’ performance is just brilliant,” says Vivian Green.
